Thank you for your interest in applying to the 2025 Community Programs Internship with the Writers Guild Foundation!
Please review the description and guidelines below before you apply.
Description
The Community Programs Intern will assist with the operation and promotion of WGF’s Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program (WASSTP), a first-of-its-kind initiative to support the full inclusion and employment of underrepresented groups in the television industry, and The Veterans Writing Project, a yearlong mentorship program for emerging writers from U.S. military backgrounds.
The internship will provide a nuanced perspective on the relationship between emerging TV writers and employers, as well as the challenges they face entering the workforce.
Interns may support any of the following projects depending on their primary areas of interest and professional background:
- Video Editing: Interns with video editing experience will review previously recorded interviews and craft dynamic sizzle reels to promote our community programs. Some original footage may need to be captured, so production experience is a plus.
- Community Outreach: Interns will use a variety of outreach techniques and online platforms to promote alumni for staffing positions in TV writers’ rooms and assist with the creation of the annual program lookbook. They may also assist with outreach and tracking for the Foundation's nonprofit community partner list.
- Research & Data Analysis: Through targeted research, the intern will identify potential areas of growth for the program both internally and externally. Data will be aggregated into an organized and visually stimulating report that will be shared with WGF's Board of Directors and other program affiliates.
- Event Planning: Interns will assist with the planning and execution of networking events and mixers with leading Hollywood development executives, showrunners, and other industry professionals. Some photography experience encouraged.
In this role, interns will gain an understanding of:
- The entertainment industry at large, with a particular focus on the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in TV writers’ rooms.
- The operations of a small nonprofit and how to execute large-scale programming with limited resources.
- How to use creative social media and email campaigns to raise awareness about DEI initiatives.
- How TV shows are staffed and what hiring executives seek in emerging talent.
- Nonprofit management platforms such as Giveffect and Submittable as well as more common services like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Squarespace, Studio System, Zoom, and more.
The internship will be active from August to December 2025. Ideally, interns will work 16 to 24 hours per week, depending on their availability, with occasional evening work required.
Interns will be compensated a total of $7,148.00 for 400 hours of work, at a rate of $17.87/hour.
Please note that while we will be working with screenwriters in the film and TV industry, this internship is not a screenwriting internship or fellowship program.
